CMBN : THE CROSSROADS AT MONTHARDROU AFTER ACTION REPORT

Lawrence, try smoking both Panthers and push forward more with your infantry, support by Shermans. Remember to allow the smoke time to expand before moving out.

Lighthorse my friend, you are a wise man.

Remember to allow the smoke time to expand before moving out.

I've been maintaining the smoke screen with WP rounds from any sherman with LOS. I neglected one turn, and paid the price.
Up-gunned Sherms left = 0.

Just to clarify, that first sherman past over mines, which DID detonate, but caused only minimal damage to the tracks. It's partner wasn't so lucky... The massive explosion killed the tank's commander and immobilized the vehicle.

Nice to be able to actually shoot back at what's killing your men...

Direct 75mm area tank fire into suspected occupied buildings was very effective in clearing out the enemy. All that was waiting for my infantry there were dead bodies...

What time is it in your scenario game?

I believe I have 41+ minutes remaining from 70+ minutes. So it took approximately 30 minutes to take the Farm, which, I might add, isn't a objective with POINTS, it's simply a jump off point from which I can assault the main crossroads.. I can feel the time crunch starting to squeeze...

Lots of game to play, lot's of fight still left in the enemy... Two big cats still prowling...

Lawrence,
Good plan the right flanking move. Did you leave any tanks or At-gun in your center to prevent those Panther(s) from moving again your attack?
And where is and what is your reserve? Or have you already commit it?
Remember a little patience, as you recon forward of your main attack.

If I remember correctly, I have about 3 tanks in the center assisting the assault on the farm, and 5 tanks on the right flank pushing towards that second Panther.

I'm not too worried about the Panthers moving... It's vs AI, and so far neither Panther has moved an inch from their initial ambush position. I think the designer of this scenario gave these two Panthers AI commands to "Hold this ground at all costs", or whatever the actual equivalent jargon is.

My reserve, yes. Final reinforcements are due to arrive late in the battle. I'm expecting another company of infantry, and an other squadron of tanks, maybe a platoon. Fingers crossed for an M10 or 2. or 6.

Looks like this won't be easy.

No sir, but I like a challenge.

CM:FI is ready for download!!!!!!!!!!!

Will have to do a CM:FI DAR next. ;-)

Just got home from my vacation and read the last posts. Great stuff Lawrence. Looking forward to a CMFI DAR.

That's all for now, been plugging away at CM:FI intently, so this game has slowed down a bit. Will try to maintain the momentum.

Returning back to this game from an Italian Campaign is striking. The Italians are a real challenge to handle... No infantry AT assets, no squad splitting, mostly long range riflemen, many more HQ teams to manage.. Oh, and NO RADIOS for anyone. They've got a decent mortar though, the 45mm Brixia.

No wonder the Italians were trounced in the war. They were using WW1 equipment and doctrine. And this is very realistically simulated in CM:FI.

I just can't resist... ;-)

Here's a shot of an Italian Red devil grenade being lobbed to a surprised American GI.

"Don't shoot, I surren --- KABLAM!!!"

Hey Lawrence,
For fun, I'm played the scenario your using for DAR as the Germans....OMG the Americans have armor and other reinforcements coming out of they ears. Still won a total victory as German, but towards the end, Panthers were wreaks with so many hits, but still battle worthy.

Always check your Lines of Fire before moving tanks forward...

The Attack to flank the Panther begins in earnest. My guys cough and hack from the thick smoke...

There we go, a result.

I'll now be able to turn this flank and take the crossroads objective. Hoorah!
