Another example of bad sci-fi writing...
I'm a fan of The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead series (I am drawn to post apocalyptic fiction for some reason - go figure).
They have gone through some drastic changes of writers I think.
The Walking Dead went from fairly good character development and stories, then to ultra-violence as a crutch, and now seems to be written by grade-school students.
Extremely shallow and uninspired plots and dialogue that diminishes the characters.
Is it that much trouble to come up with new stuff or to retain good writers? Sci-fi has so much creative scope too.
I could come up with dozens of new plot-lines, that don't rely on clashes with psychotic gangs.
I'll bet part of the problem is good writers aren't getting paid properly. But they are the key to a good story.
