IL STURMOVIK 1946

I don;t know what;s going on.
I don't want force feed back, i just want to put back in center. I played like this for ages with no problems...
I guess it's something with my drivers or something like that...

Well, you got me looking an I found IL-2 Forgotten Battles in the back of the closet:

Regarding my joystick..

It looks like problem was on logitech gaming control software.
I had 2 versioins running at the same time - old and new one.
As soon as i deleted old version everthing worked. I'm not sure how it worked earlier i didn't install or delete anything....

And here is something i found while searching for my problems.
Joystick profiles of IL-2 authors and players:

Oleg Maddox:
Roll: 1 3 6 12 21 32 44 61 81 100
Pitch: 1 4 8 15 24 33 44 60 77 100
Yaw: 0 10 19 32 43 54 63 74 86 100

crazyivan1970:
Roll: 27 38 52 63 69 75 83 88 93 100
Pitch: 28 44 55 62 70 79 88 93 96 100
Yaw: 29 40 48 57 66 76 86 93 95 100 plus 7 deadband.

The Author:
Roll: 13 21 28 39 53 65 77 88 96 100
Pitch: 22 28 37 45 54 65 77 88 97 100
Yaw: 35 41 48 56 67 76 82 89 95 100

As a starting point, the author suggests the following:
Roll: 1 4 9 16 25 36 49 64 81 100
Pitch: 1 4 9 16 25 36 49 64 81 100
Yaw: Leave it at default for the time being.

Right now i'm using Madox configuration with minor roll adjustments.

My P-40 mixes it with Mitsubishi A5M Claudes over China (actually it's the Slovakia map but it passes as China)

Claudes fire a pea shooter, but they can fly circles around the P40...

That's a tough match... The KI 84 was probably the best Japanese fighter imho.

Hello all, just got started over here. I am both an IL2 and Combat Mission addict so this is like the greatest fix, thanx for enabling. ;) I have been at IL2 for quite some time now, so if anyone has any questions they don't feel like finding the answer for themselves, just ask me, I will be glad to help!

Hi mate I'm a test nut, I've already tested out air-to-air rockets and the IL-2T's torpedo to get solid data about launch release parameters etc, and shall work through other nations torpedoes to see if their params are different.
I also want to compile an aircraft armament chart and other assorted charts but am holding off at the moment til Cliffs of Dover is released (later this month?) so I can incorporate those kites too.
I've been flight simming for 28 years (WW1/WW2/modern jets etc) and have only had IL-1946 a few weeks so am a relative newcomer to it.
I'm certainly finding it harder to shoot down aircraft than in other WW2 sims; deflection shooting in particular is much harder and challenging even with Realistic gunnery toggled Off.

To make things easier, I tend to prefer the heavier-armed aircraft even though the weight of their guns reduces manoeuvrability, but the big plus is that once you get an enemy fighter in your sights just a few cannon shells will rip him to bits before he can pull away.
So rather than a dainty "aerial ballet" my tactical preference is to dive on them like a bat out of hell and give them a brief destructive squirt before they even see me coming. If it's good enough for Bubi it's good enough for me..:)
"Combat flying is based on the slashing attack and rough maneuvering. In combat flying, fancy precision aerobatic work is really not of much use.
Instead, it is the rough maneuver which succeeds"- Colonel Erich 'Bubi' Hartmann, highest scorer in the history of air warfare with 352 victories in WW2

(And by his own account, he was convinced that 80% of the pilots he downed did not even realize what hit them)

And there are several different kinds of gunsight which I'm trying out, one seems to have a wobbly icon in the middle of it which I assume is the flight path of the plane, so I'm trying to figger out whether we're supposed to lay the icon on the target, any ideas?

And I'm thinking of getting a new joystick, I've used a Saitek Cyborg (with twist throttle) for about 5 years and feel like a change, any recommendations?

The exploits of Hans-Joachim Marseille seem to contradict this assumption, or rather show it was not the only way to operate: 158 kills, all against Western pilots. He often shot down his adversary's with only a few rounds and with the lightly armed BF109-F....

Yes the basic 109F only had 1x 20mm cannon and 2xMG's and was fine against enemy fighters, but useless against medium and heavy bombers which could soak up a lot of punishment and still stay airborne, that's why Jerry kept up-gunning his fighters through the war.
My favourite is something like the Fw190A-8/R1 which has 6x 20mm cannons and 2x MG's because not only can they shred a fighter with a brief squirt, but they can also carve up heavy bombers real bad.
Check out my earlier stunning screenshots of B-17's falling out of the sky..

PS- Usually the only way a lightly-armed fighter could down a heavy would be with a frontal attack, but in the heat of combat it wasn't always possible to line up for a head on shot, so most of the time they'd be forced into making rear or side shots.
And as most heavies had armour plate to protect them from rear attack, a lightly-armed fighter therefore wouldn't stand much chance of downing a heavy baby from the rear as my screenshots indicate..

Thx for the warm welcome guys! I flew with the cockpit off until about 8 months ago, out of seven years of IL2 and about 16 years simming in general, flying with the pit on has greatly improved my tactical thinking as far as online play goes. Most every nation has it's own gunsight, so there is another factor separating aircraft of different nations. The sight you are referring to acts like a super slip/turn indicator. If the moving part is dead center of the gunsight, you are flying straight and true.

I used the Logitec Extreme 3D Pro for the longest time, and I got good use out of it, it still works but I have since upgraded to a HOTAS setup. I use the Saitek X52, and it is awesome. I would recommend it to anyone for any time of simulation. HOTAS is so much more intuitive then anything else, and while tricky to get used to, adds to the immersion twenty fold.

I started playing IL2 before it was released thanks to friends of Ubisoft who were attending our LAN parties at Check Six...

As for the "Boom and Zoom" tactics from POS, they all depend what you're flying and what the other guy is flying... Makes sense with Bf 109 on the eastern front as the 109 has a far better rate of climb then most russian fighters, specially early war. Russians should try to draw the 109 in a turning fight.
Same with US Fighters in the Pacific which are much heavier than the japanese or have a fantastic climb rate like the P38. Zeros should try to go in a turning fight, and not dive because of commands getting "stuck" at high speed.
