Bf109 K-4/C3 (3x 30mm canns/2x MG's) v B-17G headon with Realistic gunnery and Limited ammo realism settings.
Unlike my previous tests which were conducted with Unlimited ammo and Non-realistic gunnery, the following test was conducted with
Limited ammo and Realistic gunnery.
As before, I had Vulnerability/Pilot Vulnerability 'On' in this one. This is (gulp) the real thing..
Firstly in a pre-test I fired into thin air and timed how long my ammo lasted, the
30mm canns expended after 6 secs and the
MG's after 20 secs.
Okay here we go, (my apologies for posting fullsize screenshots but I want to show what it looked like on my monitor screen without any re-sizing or cropping)
The incoming formation is possibly still just a tad too far away, so I hold my fire-
Fire! I'll concentrate solely on the centre boy. I estimate that if I began firing now in one long continuous burst, my 6-seconds worth of 30mm shells should have all slammed into the bomber by the time I scream through the formation. (Incidentally i'm using FRAPS for these screenshots set on 'automatic' to take a pic at 1-second intervals)
2 seconds..
3 seconds..(i'm holding my speed down to around 250mph so I don't zip through the formation too fast before I've given the the terror-flieger the full 6 seconds worth of shells)
4 seconds..amazing, the B-17 fireballs even though the range is still pretty far, I lurv big 30mm shells!
5 seconds..I begin pulling up to avoid a collision even though i've still got about a seconds worth of 30mm shells left-
6 seconds, I'm through without a scratch! And one of the other bombers is trailing smoke, a 30mm shell must have clipped him, or debris from his exploding mate got him..
I ran it a twice more to test it wasn't a fluke, and shot down a bomber the first time, and left one trailing smoke the second time, again without a scratch to me or my 109, it was almost too easy.
Don't take my word for it, try it yourselves, just make sure you take up one of the big-hitters packed to the teeth with cannons..
(As I say to CM noobs-"Never fear to use heavy weapons, let the fear be your enemies")
