IL STURMOVIK 1946

How is the FW190 in this game ? I read the D-9 was the best German (piston engined) fighter of WW2. Is it in a game like this any good too?
 
Imho great plane, except for me the long nose makes visibility even more complicated than the original FW 190 on take offs and landings. Historically had the same problem as all end war ones : too few and too late.

I still personally think the best all around german fighter was the Bf109, even if it was a bit short range. During the Battle of Britain, the E4 type taking off from France could only stay 20 mns over the south of England and couldnt escort the He111s far enough inside land. The 110s could with their twin engines but were lousy fighters.
 
@ POS : I had started this thread in the Screenshots section because it was my first intent to post screenshots, but if the conversation rolls on around IL2 and WW2 airplanes, we might as well have everything in the same place. No pb...

(this being of course simulated on the south Finland map)

Hurricane Ib Battle of Britain. Very easy to fly, stable platform, was chasing bombers while the spits looked after the fighters.

Mosquito... also chasing warships in Norway, otherwise memories of night missions over France. Two engines (safety) and great speed. Was also used for high precision bombing missions.

Tempest...another wild horse.... but very successful end of war fighter. Favourite plane of french ace Pierre Clostermann. (books "The big circus" and "Fire from the sky")

Today 07th of March 1943, Oblt Lothar Scherrer (Eisernes Kreuz 1ste Kl.) was shot down by Flak over Kronstad while performing a ship bombing mission leading a flight of 3 FW 190 A5 after 17 successful missions throughout Winter 42-43 in the region of Leningrad.
 
Today 27th of December 1942
Lt Eckhardt Von Knebel , born in Köln in 1919, has joined 1/51 JG in the Rzhev region. Taking off from Vyazma air base, this fine team performs fighter/bomber duties on Messerschmitt Bf 109 E7/B.
First mission of bridge blowing has been successful despite lousy weather and cloud base around 600m, and all pilots made it back. Only 1 FW 190 A4 from escort was lost. VVS lost 4 Yak 1Bs. Schnaps for everyone !!!
 
I don't play online anymore, don't have a full time internet connection. In IL2, I can tell you the "drones" are not that easy to shoot down. You often come back to base with no victory, either because you didn't find any enemy planes during your mission, or escorts or your flight members have been faster than you shooting them down... For me shooting down stuff is just a secondary objective. Make a clean flight giving the right orders to your flight(s) on the right time and make it home in one piece is the primary... The complex engine management in IL2 (prop pitch, mixture richness, cowl flaps for temperature and compressor stages) keep you busy already...lol
 
I know, i play Il-2 too :)

AH does not have complex engine management, but real aircraft simulation is excellent.
 
I see... did you try the last 4.10 version ? nice new features like the real navigation beacons.
 
That's around 2 years old...lol You still find servers running the 4.07 ?
 
I don;t fly Il-2 online - because of Aces High.
I tried, it's ok, but AH is far more better on that area.
 
I'll update mu Il-2, and we can try flying together....even better, against each other :) I always want to test my Zero against any opponent :)
Anyway, you should try Aces High, it's very nice game.
