Retro-pic from my battle with Lord Bane. The game has been stalemated for most of the time, so in an effort to break the deadlock I send a Chaffee and Sher75 on 'fast' to get his Panther (blue circle) by using the house for cover on the approach before popping out from behind it to take the Panther by surprise, what could possibly go wrong?
Main pic- my American machines make their move; the Chaffee spotted a flak-vehicle en route and quickly took it out (burning at top centre), but now an ominous sign is detected within the house:- field-grey clad figures..
The Chaffee desperately begins pouring pointblank fire into the building, but a bloodcurdling whooshing sound is heard as something comes flying out the window (inset) and the Chaffee is trashed..
(The game ended within the next turn or two before the Sherman could get in on the act)

My 2x PzIV's trundle to beef up the flag but run into Seel's bazookaman who's covering the road, and who promised his C.O. beforehand:- "If I can get clear shots, I'll kill 'em both"

PS- Seel said- "Hmmmm, what good are rocket skirts if they don't repel rockets, is this not modeled into the game? I can see the frontal shot penetrating but the side shot should have been detonated by the skirt"
Yes I'd have thought the skirt would have protected the panzer on the right, the hit readout was- "Side upper hull penetration, knocked out"
Maybe skirts didn't give 100% protection against zooks.
(For the record the readout for tank on the left was "Front lower hull penetration, Knocked out")

The computer had a sense of humour, it gave us both mostly large-calibre HE/HC chuckers and Nort drove me out of town under a hail of big blasts..

Thing is: Skirts arent supposed to work against rockets. They do work quite well against HE or HC charges but an AT rocket usually just passes through them because they're only 5mm of soft steel. Skirts were mainly invented to protect a tank against AT rifles.

AntiG3n: 1x Sher75, 3x Sher105, 1x M10, 1x Greyhound, 1x halftrack
POS: 1x Panther, 4x Stug-long, 4x halftracks

The main flag in the north (top) was in thick trees and unreachable by tanks, so I committed my armour to the open central and southern sectors but AntiG3n held them in check-

Its tough when you get, say, nothing but greyhounds, but I like these computer-picks. When picking my own forces its hard not to go with the same basic units every time.
Which I guess works well from a historical accuracy and game balance standpoint, but not from a "keep it fun and interesting" standpoint :).

I saw those m4 105's and thought "Well this'll be a quick one." But it wasn't. I feel like it makes you be more creative or at least thoughtful with your plans. I don't mind running the risk of getting an awful hand.

Just an opinion. Good Tourney spike.

... I like these computer-picks.
When picking my own forces its hard not to go with the same basic units every time.
I feel like it makes you be more creative or at least thoughtful with your plans. I don't mind running the risk of getting an awful hand.

Yes it's fun to see what 'tools of war' the computer deals us (like in a poker game), and to try to make the best of them.
But sadly, some people are given very poor tools and can never hope to win the tourney, that's the only thing I don't like about computer-picks.
One way round it would be to give all competitors the choice of REJECTING the first file because they don't like the map and/or units, and start again with a new first file.

So if ever I use computer-picks in future tourneys, the rule will read something like this:-
"If, on opening the first file, a player doesn't like the map and/or his units, he can REJECT it and ask to start again with a new first file in the hope that he'll get a better map and/or units.
He can only play the Rejection Card ONCE, and MUST then play with the new file."

(Incidentally in the first file it's impossible to see the enemy units, players can only see their own)

PS- I'm a bit disappointed in the 21 games played so far to find that the computer hasn't given us any towed guns or snipers, maybe the parameters need tweaking, but that's for a possible future tourney.

Thing is: Skirts arent supposed to work against rockets. They do work quite well against HE or HC charges but an AT rocket usually just passes through them because they're only 5mm of soft steel. Skirts were mainly invented to protect a tank against AT rifles.

I do think the skirts were intended to defeat HC rounds(rockets are HC rounds) not ATR rounds, in fact some of the skirts were made out of wire mesh which would make no sense against ATR's. Thin skirts make no sense against ATR rounds, it would be the same as applying it directly to the surface of the tank and have no effect other than add thickness to the armor. Even if the skirts were put into place to defeat ATR's for some reason they would still have the same effect against HC rounds(early detonation). To add to that I think they did not appear until 1943 when ATR's were on the out and HC was now the established at weapon so it makes sense they were in place for the latter.

I know for a fact the U.S. is currently using "rocket skirts" in Iraq and Afghanistan to defeat HC rounds.
