2-on-2 Team Game ... Any takers?

@mTk @Nort

file 'Colossal Crack 003b 001', is in dropbox. No need to alter file name as previously stated by Nort, just let the file increment as normal.

If there is no objection, I will be going into the DB to fix the file name so that it reads just Colossal Crack 003, without all of the rest of the festoonary.

That's OK ... but there's no need. After mTk suggested it may be useful to add letters, @Bill and I were only ever going to (and now probably won't, anyway ...) modify the files in our side's dropbox, as we moved them about between us.

When we have finished, the version that gets loaded up into the dropbox you (we all) can see will be just plain 003, 005, etc etc.

I thought I'd made that clear in what I posted ...

*Edit*
Sorry, just now seen what Bill also posted ... if the filename did have the "b" in it, sorry, that was meant to be only for us and not for you to see ... as I said above, I thought that was clear between us, but perhaps not ...

@Bill ... don't know if there is a better way (?), but so that we can both watch the replay, shall we both copy 004 from the dropbox to do that ... then if I do my orders first, and send you a part-completed 005 in our dropbox for you to finish off and put a final 005 back into the all-shared dropbox?

@Bill I have now done the above: a partial 005, with my orders in it, is now in our shared dropbox awaiting your orders and submission of the final 005 to the game dropbox.

If this has worked OK for you, follow this pattern for subsequent turns ...?

Erm ....

There is a turn 006 in the game drop box, but no turn 005 ????

Is that you guys already done your turn 006?

Or, @Bill did you make our turn 006 rather than 005?

Because you are loading up a "part of" 005 from me to do your orders, the game will automatically make the next save 006 unless you edit it back? (Annoys me! The game increments .ema and .bts files as if they are the same thing ...)

Don't know what the rest of you think, but to help keep track of the turns I'd like to keep the "proper" sequence going, and have our turns odd numbers and your turns even numbers, and not have any gaps / jumps, just so we know where we are??

Hi guys!

I've played some 2vs2 games and made a write up of the procedure. Maybe it helps.

The procedure is quite simple and after a few iterations it is no problem.

Here's a description of the process. Sending mail notices to your team mate and the other team is very important.

Setup) Team A&B with players 1&2.
There is a common dropbox folder for both teams (the common folder). This will only hold the finished turns (.ema - no .bts).
Each team also has a separate folder which is not shared with the other team (.bts - no .ema)(the team folder).

1) Team A finishes its moves and creates:

"2vs2 ME 010.ema"

in the common folder.

2) Player 1 from Team B sees the file first and copies it into his incoming (CMH will do this)

3) Player 1 makes his part of the move and saves the file in the team folder. No red button!
Append ‚save’ to the name. The file created would be:

"2vs2 ME 011 save.bts"

CM automatically ups the file number. Send a notification to your team mate!

4) Player 2 copies the .bts into his save game folder. He makes his move and presses the red button. Now he has just to remove ‚save 001‘ from the file name (CM adds the 001)

"2vs2 ME 011.ema"

will be created (after adjusting the name). This file is copied into the common folder (CMH will do this)

Then send an email to the other team.

Goto 1)

Sending the notifications (both) is important because with 4 players there is always the danger of everyone waiting for everyone else. Turn rate is usually around half of that of a 1vs1.

Hi Poesel71!

Thanks for this; provides a firm system to use.

To be honest though, I'm not sure that adding the "save" into the .bts file by player 1, and then that having to be taken out again by player 2 for the .ema file, is any easier than player 2 just remembering to decrement the file number back again by 1, to be the same number as it was when player 2 loaded the (.bts) file? Or is there another advantage I'm missing?

And, I still have the same issue as I outlined above about the replays. If player 1 - only - of team B uses the .ema file from the opponents and gets that to his orders stage and passes it on as a .bts, then - from that file - player 2 can never (?) see the replay of the previous turn, once the file is in the next orders phase? Player 2 also has to download, and look at but not use, the original .ema file from the opponents to see the prior replay? Or am I missing something again?

Appreciate you looking and chipping in: when the battle gets going we may be able to post some DAR pics etc ... Or, if we're getting annihilated, Nort and mTk can post some instead!! :D

Problem is 'remembering' - that usually fails. ;)
You can of course add something else than 'save'. But this prevents CM from accidentally incrementing the turn number and so it is a good failsafe. Without that the second player always has to check if the first one did increment or not.

If all players just copy the .ema and not move it then player 2 can watch the replay, too. Player 2 has to load the turn twice: first the .ema for replay and then .bts for the moves.

Administrative overhead:
Player 1: save the turn and move the file to the team folder
Player 2: copy turn save from team folder and load it

The Germans' turn 006 in the 2x2 DB. First blood to the good guys. :p

Pictures or it never happened! I would love to see some pictures or DAR stuff from this battle. I had tried to set up co-op campaigns or 4 player battles previously, but could never get them started or finished.

Tough to post pics or DAR's as there are spies everywhere!

Too true!

I was wondering if I - we - might be able to post some carefully chosen pics in the public thread after contact has been made, but only showing units that "all know each other is there" kind of thing??

Or, I'm certainly OK to confirm I will stay out of a thread of yours if you want to publish pics; sure Bill will do likewise. And trust you guys to do the same in reverse if we both want to do updates with info not for the other side's consumption?
